It’s been a while since I got to drive during a Touristenfahrt at the Ring and I’m all set to go back there!! Yeah!! :)
Ring-o-card of 9 laps purchased and already at my home in France, and now the Hotel is reserved for 2 nights at the Am-Tiergarten hotel right next to the track. Love their restaurant which is filled with Ring memorabilia, but never got to spend the night in the hotel before...
If anyone want to join me, I’ll be there 20th and 21st, leaving the 22nd of June in the morning. The track is opened all day on sunday, but only 1 hour on saturday late in the afternoon...
Wish I could have gone when the track is opened 2 full days, but unfortunatly I just couldn’t make other dates fit into my schedule.
And if you’re wondering what I’ll be driving, well, I’ll have my almighty 42hp Austin Mini 1000! I might rent a car for a couple of faster laps though :)
It looks just like this one, minus the chrome arches.

Never liked the chrome arches. Too OTT for me.

“It’s been a while since I got to drive during a Touristenfahrt at the Ring and I’m all set to go back there!! Yeah!!”
You have no idea how hard that statement hurts.

A little exterior dressing on the black plastic works wonders but I like the old ‘lip’ arches.
But these work for me also.

I was planning a drive up there on the 6th but maintenance on the 328i has to happen first. Hopefully I can make it this summer, it’s only a few hour drive from Baumholder.

The 2nd picture is exactly mine, with the wheels and bumper of the picture I posted.

I live in Japan, but I’m french :)
And yes, tons of fun. I miss going there... I haven’t been for almost 2 years now! I used to go every 6 months before...

Very nice indeed. Hopefully without those chrome rear light cluster hoops.

Well, if you can make it there the 20th or 21st of June, just look for an all black Mini. There shouldn’t be hundreds :)

So if you are going there from Japan, I guess I can’t complain about the distance since I live in the US. Have fun and send pics.

Without those, but the car itself is far from perfect... Minor bumps here and there :)
I have new suspensions waiting for me and maybe I’ll order new seats before I leave too... Mine have zero holding capacities and you slide around the whole car while driving :)

haha, well, I do have the advantage of being french and going back in Europe once in a while anyway so... :)

Cars get dings, scuffs and scratches during everyday life and an old car is going to gave a few. Just drive her and enjoy her.

I will probably go in a few weeks too in the Celica.
Question though, is there some sort of tech inspection you have to pass? And what should I check on my car to make sure it will not fall apart on the track?

No tech inspection because it’s not a racetrack.
It’s a toll road. One way and with no speed limits. Imagine the Isle of Man but in Germany. As far as the car itself goes, it depends on you and on how you drive. If you have a car that has risks of falling appart on your way home, it will have risks of falling appart at the ring. If it’s overall a safe reliable car, it will do just fine at the ring.
Brake pads are the most important thing as your brakes can become useless after 3 corners if you don’t know how to brake properly when driving fast (braking as hard as possible, the least amount of time possible, unlike anything you do on the road). Other than that nothing really...
Go there with a full tank of gas on arrival, as queue to get gas can be really long around the ring...
